English Lessons for malays 11

Posted by sazali

Salam

So far I have gone through with you three things called: tenses, direct and indirect speech and finally antonyms / synonyms.

It took me many years to learn that ..but in this world of 'Instant Nescafe' and Instant Camera .. I think this generation likes to learn anything as quickly as possible including English. Right?

However there is nothing better than to read few novels, magazines and newspapers in order to get some important feelings, grasp on human expressions when interacting with each other. Few good novels are "Tom Sawyer" and "The thirty nine steps". FYI, I enjoyed reading Enid Bylton's novels when I was as young as 10. Now I am in the fifties. Don't worry about this. It is just a big number. (laugh)

Examples:

Today we are going to see the construction of simple and more complicated sentences like:
1) Every day Maimun cooks dinner for her family with a budget of RM30.

This is called a simple sentence because it has a subject called "maimun" and a predicate "cooks dinner for her family with a budget of RM30."

Remember a sentence consists of a subject and a predicate(story).

How about a complex sentence.

2) Everyday the male and female teachers conduct their lessons separately without making any commotion between them.

Here there are two different sentences. Can you identify them ? Correct ..the sentence has 2 subjects called the male teachers and the 'female' teachers.

So it can be written in two different ways.

2.1 Every day the male taechers conduct their lessons.

2.2 Every day the female teachers conduct their lessons.

We had used "AND" a conjunction to combine two sentences into 1 main sentence.

Then 'the ... without making any commotion between them" is a story about their attitude in carrying out their job as professionally as they can.

Can you this?

Well don't worry so much if you cannot take today's lessons as effectively as u would like it to be. Come times ..u would be able to see the light through this jumbled words.

I think that's all for today.

See you. Bye.
