is x equals to y?

Posted by sazali

Salam.

I am writing from mathematical point of view here. Is 'x' = 'y'? or in other words is 'y' = 'x' ? or better stiill can we say that x - y = 0?

2) what is 'x' here by the way? it must be something concrete. Say 100 gram of sugar. what about 'y'? lets say 'y' is 100 grams of flour. So I don't think a simple boy from my village will say that the sugar is flour. Nonsense! He did not need to go to UTHM to realize that sugar cannot be flour. So how can we teach this simple headed boy and his friends in a classrooom of say Form2 H. the last class.

3) then the third equation is x - y = 0?

how can we teach 100 gram of sugar minus 100 gram of flour will result in something called 0 (zero)?

Magic? Of course that boy will laugh from the first day he met the linear equation until the day he dies. As a result , he will declare .. what that maths teaching is explaining is just utter rubbish.

4) I met an ustaz (religious teacher) at Masjid Langgar, Kota Bharu. He was teaching from 800 pm to 830 pm at a fee say rm50 per session. He will stopped teaching before isya' prayer. The most interseting point he taught us that night was ... he produced this golden speech.

what is it old man? His preaching was ...' You don't need to do calculus, Matlab, SPSS, decision trees and all kinds of higher maths in order to buy dry salted fish in the market? ' Do we? (laugh). Yes I was laughing .. at that moment .. until now when ever I remember that ustaz in Kelantan rejecting the impact of mathematics algebra in humans life. May be he was true.

Could any body entertain me with those questions .. x, y, 0, calculus plus ikan kering gelama, dry salted gelama fish?

He..he.. try ..give a go at it?

wallah aklam. Allah knows best.
