Let us be thankful with what we have
In life more often than not, we tend to forget how lucky we are. We focus on what we do not have rather than what we already have. We wish we have more money, more children, more wives, wives who look more alike to Angelino Jolie, more assets, better paid jobs, working wives, PhD wives, a better family environments, better car than PROTON or even a better government (BN – PKR – PAS). Oops. Blind me ..
Somehow, the grass is always greener on the other side!
While undergoing a particularly dry period in my research and writing journals recently and pondering on how to move forward, I was reminded (by my own poorly childhood) of the importance of being thankful for what I have now. At least they recruit me for teaching .. and bla..bla (counting the favors of Allah). Alhamdulilah.
Tough times do not last, but tough people do.

Preparing for a maths class
Today I would like to cover few points about set relationships. Discrete Mathematics.
So I read a few Schaum’s books that I bought in 1980’s. Mind you I graduated Leeds in 1982.
I read through the notes so that I can anticipate how much of the subject content I need to cover. Then I look at some problems (easy, middle and difficult). I always pick the simplest and the middle ones. Why? Because the simple ones would motivate my lazy students. It is important to catch their attention else my teaching will go waste.
Then I switch on the notebook. Get out a folder on SETS. This was obtained by Dr Najib Salleh. Thanks. I am very grateful with his notes and examples. At least I had saved my time from some donkey work like preparing the slides (power points). He..he..
Now how can I cover all that within 1 or 2 hours?
Mind you .. my teaching occurs in the computer laboratory. This is ideal because I can direct them to google something if my teaching is so boring. I always bring them to youtube about SETS. The 2 sets are easy A U B = A+B- (AnB) but how about
3 sets ? Is A U B U C = A + B + C – (AnB) –(AnC) – (BnC) ?
Anybody out there who can help me please?
B4 I walk out from the class, I must hand out some exercises. Next week I propose their recommended answers. Is that OK you guys?
TQ.
That’s how I carry out my life as a senior lecturer. (Thanks for your attention). p/s: 2 April 2011 I am invited to present teaching maths algebra in Penang. A technical school.

Today i got a letter dari TD(II) FSKTM. Taking over her place to interview potential candidates for UT...M scholarship. Wow! another honour to serve my faculty and my university respectively. Can i put this in my resume? Why ..who knows it can push me .. somewhere near to Assoc. Prof job DS 54. Wow! another wow ..(laugh).
2) However, thinking about it .. what to ask? Is it about faculties, subjects, masters or PHD programs related to the candidate' s background? Or just general knowledge and PnP teaching ability etc etyc .. but this is about scholarship .. it must be .. about their study Masters or PHd stuff ..something like that ..right? Well I will do my best to interview the candiadtes. Yes .. u r right .. i will ask them in English .. and lets see how they respond to a series of interesting, challenging and probing questions. Politics? huh .. I think .. it can be asked ,, in view of this year;s general election (very near). Pembangkang .. what chance will they get the scholarship? Huh ..huh ..so many if else if .. if and only if .. (discrete maths structure).
Good luck then. I will do my best .. taking the name of the faculty FSKTM well respected and fully intact.
Wasallam.
