English Lessons for Malays 7

Salam.

Today I am going to teach you ACTIVE and PASSIVE voices. Cakap ajuk dan cakap pindah.

Examples:

1) He killed the birds.

In this sentence there is a doer 'subject' pelakon .. and a story predicate the birds.

If the doer is in front of a sentence, then mostly this type of sentence is a direct active words.

If we write an essays using DIRECT WORDS/ SPEECH ..it will soon bore the readers to earth. 'bore = boring'.

So we try to write in a Passive voice sometime for a change.

Here the birds become the subject.

The birds were killed by him.

See 'the birds' is the subject now followed by ... 'him' as the story/ predicate.

killed -- > becomes ---> were killed 'past participle'.

So the passive sentence will look like ' The birds were killed by him'.

Try these few exercises.

a) I write my essay on the papers.

b) She cook mee-sup very well.

c) They sang the song just now.

Give a go at it Will you?

------------------

Answers: a) the papers were used too write my essay.
b) The mee-sup was cooked by her very well.
c) The song was sang by them.

Can you see the pattern? I am sure you can. Else .. you must be a bit blind (laugh).

Till then good bye. Have a nice week end , will you?

Wallahu aklam.
