Budak U zaman la ni

Salam

They took HSC, GCE A Levels , STP dan macam macam.

SEkarang

saya bandingkan .. pengetahuan sesetengah pelajar universiti  ..  saya rasa cukup kecewa.

2)  Ada satu soalan .. dalam QUIZ Mathematics Degree maths Minggu ke dua semester 1 tahun 1 ijazah ....

Give one example of problem solving exercise u had met before you joined this university?

The answer given to me was :

1 + 1 = 2.  then he expect to pass my discrete structure paper.

--------------------------------

I just wonder ..  why 1 plus 1 is 2 is considered as a problem solving question to a 18 year old plus student.

That problem .. my late grand daddy .. can  do that easily .. without any needs to qualify  High School graduates or getting University level of education.

----------------------

Problem solving is ..  like this ..  given RM4000 per month pay/  u have to sort out ..  surviving with 6 kids , 1 non working wife, 2 second hand  cars , 4 more family members depending on you directly night and day etc etc.

You must solve that living problem ..as quickly as possible ..

If you can handle that living problem ..  then it is called a problem solving case.  Not '1 + 1 = 2" boy.

Pura pura tahu .. macam macam tetapi sebenarnya tak tahu sangat apa apa pun.  (Laugh).  Kasihan kpd para pensyarah ..yg bertungkus lumus ..mengajar .. sylibus setanding dgn UNIV Cambridge/ Hrvard .. kpd segelintir pelajar pelajar yg selalu menyebut BLUR , BLUR , BLUR  ..sebenornya ..  mereka tak tahu apa apa pun.

Dengan ISO 2008 ..di mana ..  90% calon mesti lulus ..  politeknik / universiti .. kami para pensyarah  kena kerja hampir hampir nak mati ..  help to push their marks ..  passing candidates .. to enter Year 2, Year 3 diploma / degree programs etc etc.  Aduh .. pura puranya kita rupa-rupanya.

With that ..  I want to say  'have a nice day ahead of you'.  pura pura we r so hebat.

wallah huaklam

i wouldnt put the blame on the student, but the writer of the question itself.

in maths, precision is of utmost importance. let's analyze the question below and see how it can be interpreted.

"Give one example of problem solving exercise u had met before you joined this university?"

first of all, maths students are not taught a proper definition of problem solving. customarily, only students who major in psychology would be exposed to it.

as such, if u are enthused of getting a more appropriate response, perhaps u should define the term more precisely.

"problem solving is a challenging situation of which the manner to move forward in finding a solution is NOT clear."

then, give an example of problem solving to concretize the conception. the idea has just been precisely introduced to the students. in effect, they may still hold a vague impression of it.

"for instance, in approximating the number of pixels that occupy a 20 inch HDTV"

finally, u should give a more accurate account of the educational range that is relevant to ur question.

"Give one example of problem solving exercise u had met before you joined this university?"

the phrase "before you joined this university" is too fuzzy, it can go as far back as kindergarten. if a person normally joins the university at age 19 then the question basically says that he could cite ANY examples prior to that age..

"Give one example of problem solving exercise u had met when ur age is X <= 19 within the education system"

since at the kindergarten, his age 2<K<7 is true to X <= 19, citing a "1+1=2" is considered a problem solving situation. this is due to the fact that kids around that age find arithmetic a challenge.

alternatively, u can look at the question from the perspective of algebra. it can be quite a feat for a student to prove that "1+1=2" by using the axioms of arithmetic.

now, since u had failed to give a proper definition of problem solving to a group of students with no prior background in psychology, and u faltered in accentuating the precision of educational age relevant to the question, i'd give a full mark for "1+1=2".

ps : x penting sgt untuk kejar impresi kehebatan seperti harvard etc. yg penting pelajar seronok belajar, dapat menimba ilmu dgn sempurna dan mampu menyumbang kembali kepada semua.

TQ so much for the feedback. It was so nice of you to pinpoint that 'error'. Have a nice day .. prof

but i think to have such "seronok" in university is not enough, it has to be added with work hard and effort, because we study for the country's future right, so to be outstanding is a must, sorry if this u think a mistake :) -uthm degree student-
